The key blocks
- Never share or screenshot your recovery phrase.
- Disconnecting and revoking approvals are separate actions.
- A hardware wallet cannot judge an approval for you.
Verify the entrance
A familiar logo is not proof of identity. Use a saved official entry point and inspect the complete domain. Treat ads, unsolicited messages and shortened links as reasons to check again.
Keep the official announcement and contract address in your notes. A large follower count does not replace either check.
Keep recovery secrets out of conversations
Ethereum’s security guide explains that recovery phrases and private keys control a wallet. Do not share them or save screenshots that may sync to cloud services.
An ordinary website sign-in should not require control of your entire wallet. Separate account authentication from wallet recovery.
Review permissions, not just the transfer value
A zero-value transfer display does not establish that a request has no later consequences. Inspect the operation, network, contract, recipient and token spending limit. Pause when the signature is unclear.
There is no universal safe button. Wallet interfaces and protocol designs differ; consult the relevant official documentation.
Disconnecting leaves a separate question
MetaMask distinguishes a website connection from token approvals. Existing on-chain approvals may remain after disconnecting. Reviewing and revoking unnecessary permissions is a separate operation.
Verify the revocation tool, network and target contract, and consider network fees. Avoid recovery tools promoted through unsolicited messages.
Limit the scope of a mistake
Our operational suggestion is to separate experimentation from long-term storage and define a limit for each activity. Hardware can isolate private keys, but it cannot understand your intention or assess an authorization.
If a private key may have leaked, revoking one contract does not repair the compromised key. Stop using the suspicious entry point and consult the wallet provider’s incident guidance.
